Have just received my RCN Bulletin magazine and very interesting article in this. As I am such a technophobe I don't know how to scan it so will do my best to write it up!!
The RCN has welcomed the recognition of the historical significance of nurses' contribution to the First World War, as more than 15,000 nursing service records have been made available on line.
The documents include previously confidential information that provides a glimpse into the life stories of the heroic individuals who dedicated their lives to the profession. The records date from 1902 to 1922 and hold an unusually high level of detail, rarely seen in service records.
"Theses records will provide a fantastic resource for those studying nursing history or researching family history", said Fiona Bourne, RCN Archives specialist.
"This is the first purely nursing military resource available online.  It may contain their application form with family and training  details, correspondence, names of hospitals they've worked in and field units they served with. For the descendents of the 15,000 nurses included, reading these will be a real delight," she said.
The records cover the Queen Alexandra's Imperial Military Nursing Service, including their Reserve and the Territorial Forces Nursing Service, mostly during the First World War period. http://nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/nursing.asp

This is a really good site. I collect medals awarded to nurses as well as badges and I have just printed out 54 pages of info about a nurse who was awarded the ARRC 2nd class.I already had her ARRC medal and  a little info including the original telegram instructing her to attend Buckingham Palace for her award. It cost me £3.50 plus my printing - lots of yellow ink used as everything printed on the old yellowish/beige background but I am really thrilled to get all this. Hope others may find this useful.
