the Tommies SEN badge is lovely so all I need know is the red box for the SRN version and the tea towel ( seriously there is one)  Does the tomies SEN version have its own box or is the same as the SEN one? Apart from tommies and the London does any other hospitals have there own boxes if issue?(hope that makes sense)

Sarah Rogers

I dont know- I had not thought about that; the sen tommies I have also does not have a box- think they were plastic like mine from the london by the 1980's- the london had paper ones, white in the / 1960-1970's..

barrysutton

Parkside, Macclesfield and Cardiff both had boxes.

It is interesting to note that when St Thomas's Hospital offered training for Enrolled Nurses the badge was inscribed on the back as Name of Recipient and year it was awarded(1969) plus Training School for Pupil Nurses ST. Thomas's Hospital.
The current badge on Ebay is inscribed with the name of the Recipient and the year it was awarded (1987) plus Nightingale School St Thomas's Hospital. As Enrolled Nurses training did not start at St Thomas's Hospital until the 1960's I wonder if the Nightingale School of Nursing was only for RGN at that time and SEN training was undertaken by pupil nurses within the hospital group and the schools of nursing attached to the hospital e.g. Lambeth Hospital, South Western Hospital. It would appear from the wording on the back of the badges that at sometime the Nightingale School of Nursing became responsible for all Nurse Education.
I would appreciate if anyone has any knowledge of this or views on the subject.

Wow!! The one with Phyllis Friend on back just sold for £377, a good piece of nursing history. I see there was a message to the seller from the London Hospital Nurses League to ask if he would sell it to them as she was President but he didn't respond. Did any of "our gang" manage to get it?

nursesue

wilfb

Not me, I wonder if it's the league who bought it & why they didn't go for her Hertford Country Council Nursing Service medal.

backman

Not me ,I do hope that it went to the League.

caro7b

Nor is it me. Hope the league buy her GNC badge then.

Sarah Rogers

I sadly do not think that it did- someone did try for it, it should neve r have come up for sale like that, not Dame P Friends badge...great shame, so it will not be on show in the Museum for all to see now...
