Very interesting Mike, thank you. I collect the histories and medals of WW1 nurses and there were many areas where they served. Casualty clearing stations at the front, field hospitals, hospital trains,ships and barges. In all of the celebrations of WW1 I was saddened to see little mention of the nurses and VAD's who worked so valiantly under such hard conditions.

There have been several talks at the RCN about the WW1  input of trained nurses- not VAD's I hasten to add!
