I don't know how many people still get the RCN Bulletin magazine but thought some of you may remember Alan who passed away last month aged 76. He was the RCN Advisor for Learning Disability and Prison Nursing. RCN Fellow Professor David Sine has written " Alan was simply one of the all time "great figures" in his profession. During a career that spanned five decades he worked tirelessly to raise the standard of care and support afforded to people with learning difficulties and of the professions that worked alongside them.
Through his stewardship the profession of learning disability was revolutionised, moving from an era characterised by negative imagery, isolation and segregation from mainstream society to one that has navigated the route for the delivery of effective care closer to home"
