Good to finally see that the RCN is taking the lead in developing facilities to commemorate the History of Nursing. I look forward to the opening in the summer of 2013, perhaps an opportunity for members of the Forum to meet?

Hi.

Yes, that's an outside possiblity - we will be in the UK next summer for a little while - but also need to be back in Europe for an André Rieux concert and visit to Maastricht. For me it will depend very much on the RCN dates as we need to decide whether to fly or drive... Anyone know the dates?  Maybe, and I beieve this to be a forlorn hope - those of us who have contributed to our history in our own ways, at work or privately, will get an invite!

Salary £37,803 pa pro rata inc Inner London Weighting
Contract Term Permanent
Post Hours 21
Interview Date 17th and 18th June 2013
Closing date for applications 1 June 2013

The Role

The Royal College of Nursing Library and Heritage Centre will document, preserve and explore the past, present and future of nursing in the United Kingdom; and continue to hold the most extensive resource for nursing in Europe. It aims to inspire learning and debate on issues that concern nursing for the benefit of all by providing access to a high quality collection of research resources to suit nurses at all stages of their careers.

This newly created role offers you the opportunity to lead on the first RCN Audience Engagement Plan to develop target audiences, including RCN members, staff and the public.
Working from our modernised Library and Heritage Centre at RCN's historic headquarters at 20 Cavendish Square (due to open autumn 2013) you will be part of a team providing members and the public with access to our library, historic collections, exhibition, shop, and cafe services.

Working within the Standards, Knowledge and Information Services team you will work collaboratively with existing RCN teams that deliver events and communications to bring together a programme of events and activities to specialist nursing members. Together you will use specialist historical and contemporary collections to inspire learning and debate in a leading Royal College. You will also develop relationships with appropriate external partners to reach a wider public audience.

I'd love to meet up and look around the old place and see new development. I worked as a Regional Officer for RCN for 2 1/2 years.

Unfortunately my wife and I head off for our London break this weekend so will just miss out on the opening however will probably drop into either the London,Great Ormond street or Tommies archives to have a browse. I will most likely try to visit in October when the new exhibitions are on.
