Page 3 of the photograph
scrapbook which once belonged to Ms Barbara Tyler - Gina O - (an American correspondent)
kindly contributed photographs of the the original scrapbook. The
book subsequently passed to Keith Haikes an American male nurse
who has maintained contact with SoN. Keith also purchased
Barbara Tylers' badges and other memorabilia from Gina O. On
with the photographs...
Carleton and Williamson -
two names without elaboration - apart from the Nightingale caps
that is... These photographs originate from 1933 and it seems
unlikely that, after so many years have passed, their identities
and what subsequently happened to them will ever come to light.
Photographs of both nurses and patients from
Lilian Ward, undoubtedly at St Thomas Hospital, London. 'Money'
(nurse) playing a starring role in these particular pictures.
But again, who was 'Money' and who was Kitty -
the child in the centre
picture above - and what of the enigma Barbara Tyler left along
with her scrapbook. Who were they all? What eventually happened
to them?
All the above photographs were apparently
taken at St Thomas' Hospital, London, before Barbara's move to
Hydstile. There are many more photographs to examine, starting
perhaps with these shots taken at Botley's Park War Hospital in
1940....
It seem highly probable that we will
never discover the history of the majority of the people in the
photographs. But if anyone
knows better, a relative perhaps, please do let us know.
Wemay well be able to find out and
document considerably about the hospitals involved and some of the
more senior nurses. Whatever every page more of Barbara Tyler's photograph scrapbook
published is adding another grain of knowledge, another piece of nursing history, available to all
who may have an interest. More pages next time...
