Results of recent RCN survey show:
64% considering career abroad
53% said that the Governments pay decision made them think about a career in the NHS
90% feel nursing is undervalued
Dr Peter Carter RCN Chief Exec and General Secretary stated " This survey demonstrates the disheartening and worrying effects of the ongoing attack on nurses pay.
The Government is making a rod for its own back by refusing a cost of living increase. At a time that more nurses than ever are needed and hospitals are struggling to recruit, nurses of the future are being forced to reconsider whether they can afford to work in the NHS" He added " British educated nurses are some of the most highly regarded in the world, yet they are being treated by their own Government as completely disposable".
Put these figures with the number of highly skilled older nurses taking retirement and I wonder not if but when the NHS will implode. Why are politicians so shortsighted - they just seem to use the NHS as a political football with staff and patients treated with complete disdain.
Hello Magpie,
I think that you just said it all......
Will.
