Title: New Collectors site
Post by: backman on March 02, 2014, 08:48:38 PM
I came across this new site which has potential for those who wish to organise their collections;  www.ucollect2.com

I haven't had a chance to do much on it yet but it looks quite easy.Hopefully once people get the confidence they will feel able to add those pictures to our albums here?

Yes ,I just put a couple of items on to try it out but I agree it looks quite promising.I like the option of adding dates.

How do you get your photos to be shadow free!  I photograph mine on a unit by the window during daylight but as you can see from my photos the blue felt I place my badges on varies in shade depending on how bright the sun is.

I wish i could say that it was down to my technical genius but it is largely a matter of trial and error.I'm lucky in that I have a conservatory extension which gives good natural light from above and the side, even then on winter days I may have to go outside! Whatever I do with flash gives too much glare or shadow,no matter how I try. My secret is the choice of coloured artist card which best reflects light and gives sufficient detail to contrast the badge colour.I try several variations and select the best.i use a bit of white blue tac to hold it to the card whilst I rote the badge to the light to get the clearest view with minimum shadow. For every good picture i'll take 10 bad.

Sorted!

Hi.

Seems a very useful site - well worth a shot and it is available free. More publicity of nursing badges/photographs, especially if it become more popular.

Re Peter's photographs Myk. I think that some of those superb photographs are due to a combination of his lighting; the colours used - eg.South Devon & East Cornwall Hospital Plymouth background (acquamarine blue?); and the superb red of the Barnet Group Training School badge. There is always some reflection unless you use non-reflecting glass and shoot through that. But I think that Peter's success is largely due to a combination of the superbly clear but diffuse light inside. Probably augmented by the occasional additional overhead lighting? Plus a superb Sony Cybershot....

Plus the ever/over-modest man himself - for which there is no substitute!! Find out where he gets those backgrounds myk, buy the house and Cybershot from him and you have it cracked....

Will.
Ps. But then I am a Canon/Nikon man and just love deep burgundy-red velvet...... But my photographs are left in the shade compared to Peter's.....
