Title: Medal
Post by: myk1066 on February 21, 2014, 12:28:55 PM
Does anyone know if this is a hospital medal?  Are the letters for a Queen Mary's Royal
Navy Hospital.?  What does the M stand for?

Another new one on me.The QMRNH was a temporary First world war naval hospital based in what was the Palace Hotel,Southend.Various versions of an enamel badge for that hospital exist usually in the form of the letter M,It is possible that the M stands for Mary?
I would suggest seeking advice from Military of RN Collectors;  try    http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/forums/index.php

Apparently the M may be a speciality badge which denotes Masseur(Physiotherapist) or Mental Nurse. I had to have a punt on this one and it does look nice.Picture to follow to the album.

I think that there are somemore of these with differant intitials at the bottom and would therefore suggest that they denote the place/ location.
