Bloomin' Norfolk is ok if you are passing although I'd usually advise people to carry on passing. The countdown to Welsh Wales has begun.

Hi - happy holidays!!

Not Ireland I'm afraid Eric - though one day - promise... Wellies and all.  Last time I went to Scotland Sue I quartered at the Glasgow YMCA! Plus Wellies! But then I was piloting a very large Triumph motorcycle - that probably cost more than the entire YMCA building back then. Alderney? I think that my wife was once there holidaying with GOSH colleagues, but I have never had the pleasure Caroline...

Blooming Norfolk - I have never gotten over those magnificent Gorleston fish and chips Peter (thanks Steph') but unfortunately the nearest we will get to those will be Stamford - around 13 days time.

For anyone wondering after my whereabouts - a clue! Yesterday I was At BAE Systems being guided around that magnificent Avro Vulcan B2 (XH558) - who still has a couple of displays in her before she retires (around October this year) - I more or less grew up only around 5 miles from the Avro runway and spent many very happy hours getting neck-ache as she took off and landed.  The visit was a birthday gift from my son (now our technical wiz kid!). Superb. I was able to touch her once more before her retirement... And our names are in the bomb-bay!! No more Port Stanley's Barry....

But some Absolutely magical gains in consolation - badges, hat and hair pins, sewing gear (ladies) and nurse belts.  The latter have already been published - but the former, mouth-wateringly gorgeous addition  - well that must await the next news page. Not long now.

Guess about my current (mobile!) location?  Wish you were all here....

Will.

I'm guessing Duxford Cambridgeshire

I'd guess Duxford an all. Lovely aircraft. Saw it beautifully close in Jersey in a display over the beach at St helier ( was a long time ago tho) my husband didn't know whether to look at the topless Jersey Belles or the aircraft. I will leave you to guess which he picked........ Can't wait to see the badge

Tell us about your name in the Bomb bay?

Hi.

Lincolnshire sometimes. But that really is a wide space. And there is another Vulcan as gate guardian only around 1000 yards away right now, but we will shortly follow Tom Cruise's footsteps - although not his stunts, near then 'George'....

Newark?

I know Tom Cruise was at RAF Wittering, but as far as I can recall I associate that with the Harrier jump jet,but it may well have been a Vulcan outside the main gates on the A1 towards the lovely market town of Stamford?

Post by: wilfb on August 15, 2015, 09:24:57 PM
Hi.

Nice try - but no, the Vulcan in Newark is part of an air museum, the one near me right now is on an active air-base! The Wittering base still has a Harrier as gate Guardian. But yes, Stamford is a lovely town....

I think that this is becoming a case of 'Catch me if you can'!  But I will reveal that at least one of the Vulcans in the Port Stanley raid on the Falklands came from here.....

Bomb bay names?  Caroline you can't
expect me to give the game away!

Back to the hare and hounds.... Sorry about all the rain - but after the 39c and rising temp at home it feels gorgeous....

Will.
Ps. Where are they now?

Hello.

Ok - Caroline. You win this one! RAF Waddington it is (right now) but don't expect me to stand still for long, and Peter has already burnt me on RAF Wittering (next) so I will have to work on the clue for the next move but one.

Maybe I will be able to hand out an old Lincoln badge or two for anyone able (or best shot) to line up all my moves by the time I get back. But be warned, the last move may be very difficult to get.

However, the next move but one has yet to be declared.  The game is still on.....

Will.
Ps. I did stop it raining Magpie, but I might give in, I like it a lot!!

Hello Caroline.

The apologies are all mine.... I'm afraid that sometimes my sense of humour gets just a little out of hand! I was laughing at the time, but now I am sober as a judge...

I know that you don't think me stupid.  Please forgive me? You are a valued member - I would not like you to feel offended.

Game on! Those badges are at stake....

Will.

Some of which I experienced today.MY dog Baxter was up to his belly in mud at Tredegar House gardens today, and seemed quite happy.I however was slightly less amused as the car smelt like a farmyard! looking forward to brilliant sunshine in Oxfordshire at a festival on Sunday.
Hope everyone's holidays recharge their batteries for a autumn of activity on the Schols of Nursing website?

Hi.

Binbrooke - no, sorry, but wern't those Lightings just something else?!

Lakenheath? Well, not quite there!

Greenham Common - no, but all seem to be homing in!  I had better move!  And that final destination can only be one of two. No more clues.....

Game on!

Very Best,
Will.

Hello...

Last but one clue - yes I said 'no more clues' but everyone deserves better than that.  My final UK station begins with 'M'.....

And my final destination was Chania and the attached Hellenic Air force base - the question is who is stationed there?

So there we are - an English base beginning with 'M' and a Hellenic Air force base in Chania, Crete.

The prizes are en-route and should be here around the 25th!!

Final Game on.....

Will.
Ps. *You will have gathered that I am here on Crete again.

My First thought was Manston but I was not sure if you were Kent bound?? As far as Chania is concerned I go have an idea but will sit back and let others take the glory!

Title: Re: Globe Trotting Again!
Post by: wilfb on September 05, 2015, 08:52:44 PM
Hi....

Oh dear!!

Well, a bit of a cheat I suppose - "M" is for 'Royal Air Force Mildenhall or RAF Mildenhall  is a Royal Air Force station located near Mildenhall in Suffolk, England'. And yes, I know - it was disguised as a USAF base to clutter the plot for seekers! So I will have to give everyone contributing a pass on the one, even if you did not guess!!

But - there is one left - the airport at Chania is a Greek military base (take photographs at your peril if caught!) so maybe if you Google it..... Go on, give it a go.

I suspect that Peter is has the answer already - but a final clue - this base has F16 and is on full alert around the clock....

Game ends with all correct answers!!
Will.
