Sorry but I thought I had an image of one in the RCN display case but can't locate it.It really is a rarity and I only know of Edelweiss's and the RCN one.

Another request if anyone has a spare Great Ormond Street SRN,either the version with Hospitals or Hospital ,thanks

That is rather distressing, possibly mis-filed? All I can say is that they definitely had one in the Meglaughlin collection. It is illustrated on page 34 of the Meglaughlin catalogue being badge number 648 with the reverse on page 46.

Yet another nurse has contacted me regarding a lost badge, this time it is for a Falkirk Royal Infirmary,SRN badge. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.

The number of approaches I receive, speaks volumes of the emotional link between Nurses and their School of Nursing badges. It is also sad to see how many are lost or stolen with little chance of being replaced.I am happy to see at least a few people successfully reunited with a replacement so sincere thanks to all on here who have been able to help.

Met a guy today who had 2 dozen Irish badges, half of which I do not have BUT he looking from £80 - £450 each for them.
Unfortunately they will have to be among the increasing number that is in my Wanted folder. At least nice to see what's available out there but prices for those to add to my little collection is getting beyond my pension means.

Whilst it is always good to identify new badges I know just how finding it can be not to be able to acquire them! If I ever do get to win the lottery jackpot I will remember my needy friends!!!

Thanks Peter, you win the lottery I'll only need a few thousand for these few.
Mike, apparently he had these badges "on loan" from a collector whose identity was a very closely guarded secret. He refused to tell me whose badges they were. Indeed I think the prices he quoted included him applying a healthy "profit" to each badge.
Even less rare and more commonly appeared badges I got from ebay at £40 - £60, he was asking £80 - £120 each. The rarer older badges were above £320 - £450 mark. Nice but really I couldn't really justify paying this unless as Peter said, one had won lottery and could 'afford' it.

But one can dream and I really loved looking at and holding them today but with my first grandchild coming end of June, there is no competition, eh!!

I wholeheartedly Agree with your priorities Eric, congratulations on the impending arrival.Whilst several of us on this site expend lots of time and money on the persute of badges,it is after all only a hobby. In the end it is just "stuff" and perhaps experiences and memories are more important? THat being said I shall still be trawling the antique markets of London next week to find that as yet undiscovered treasure! ::)

Hi Eric
Is he the guy selling Irish badges on eBay now?
Title: Re: Wanted badges.
Post by: eric on March 15, 2015, 11:28:09 PM
Yes, he is a dealer. He putting these few on as tasters to see if he can obtain high prices.
Title: Re: Wanted badges.
Post by: nursesue on March 16, 2015, 09:29:36 PM
his prices seem quite reasonable compared to this Wimbledon and Nelson Hospital ( 371283260964) that I've just found on ebay in the USA !!!!!
Title: Re: Wanted badges.
Post by: eric on March 16, 2015, 10:17:25 PM
Now he has sold 4 badges and seems to be getting £120 a shot fairly quickly, I'd now expect to see the more expensive ones appearing in near future.

If you see any Irish badges from other sites or auctions available, please let me know.
Thanks

What's with the badge at £450!!!  It's a cloak badge, I know it's only worth what someone is willing to pay, I wonder what other surprises the seller will have!

The St Steven's Hospital Dublin is even more expensive at £500+ looking for it.

He sending Irish to Bosleys as ebay not getting him enought
Title: Re: Wanted badges.
Post by: myk1066 on March 24, 2015, 09:04:29 PM
Who is he, does anyone know him & are they that rare they command those prices!
Title: Re: Wanted badges.
Post by: eric on March 24, 2015, 11:50:31 PM
He is a dealer, collects UVF and military items. Buys collections and sells high.
Does not collect hospital or nursing. Buys anything that he thinks makes a profit. Recently bought over 100 Ireland Butlin badges and as you can see selling on ebay.

The St Stevens is old badge, few chips but very nice but I'd be reluctant to buy (even if I got lottery) at that prices.

I wonder what Bosley will value them at. Do let me know if you see them at auction anywhere.

must be maddening to see such lovely and would like to have badges but must admit did get tempted and had a cheeky offer accepted I tend to avoid buying Irish badges unless I know Eric and Mark already have them

It's very interesting to watch the utterly odd pricing. There are two Royal Hosp Wolverhampton badges, Same seller, same NAME on badge, but obviously different badges when you look at the reverse. One is £125 and the other £45. Or is it me being stupid  - I have one the same but a bit later than the £125 one and mine was £40 from Sally Boseley.

Pete, there is someone selling a Breakspeare badge on EBay at the mo who I bought some quite nice badges from ages ago. She had a Sister Dora badge, an enrolled one I think, but she didn't think it genuine. I did but didn't buy it because, ssssh IT WAS SO HORRIBLE (as they are) even tho my mother worked there for ever and I do like Staffordshire stuff AND I was born at that hospital. She is Leigh meadow, for eBay purposes, and now lives in Canada. I had no probs with transactions from Canada. Give her a message?

I have also bought stuff from her and have found her a reliable seller. I do have a sister Dora badge but am reluctant to part with it - so caro7b you are from Walsall? I am from Great Barr a stones throw away on the 51 bus route ( that may have changed since i was there last)

Yes sue, a little village called Essington- in Cannock really. My mother worked at  Walsall Manor and St Margaret's in Great Barr. I remember seeing statue of Dorothy Patterson on the bridge in Walsall and my mother explaining what she had done and how she had helped so many. ma, who is now 82 came to work in Walsall as a physio in polio epidemic early 1950's. We're did you train Sue? I did RMN at Stmatthews Burntwood and I still haven't found that badge, and SRN in Stafford. I had pals in Aldridge and Great Barr.
By the way Pete there is a Sister Dora badge on eBay at the moment ( but I am sure you know!!!)

Have you still got your accent or have you caught the scots vernacular? ::)
Title: Re: Wanted badges.
Post by: backman on June 07, 2015, 12:32:13 PM
Thanks Caroline, yes I have seen it and hopefully can acquire it for the nurse in question. I have also had requests for a blue Hexham General Hospital and a Newcastle Maternity badge(which I can't say I've ever seen?) It is strange how some badges are regular visitors to Ebay yet others appear only once in a blue moon or never at all?
I recently saw a Knowle Hospital, from Fareham badge which I had never seen before and it has consequently been added to my wants list.

I am always amazed by the sheer number and variety of all these lovely badges, telling a little bit of the story of a persons life. I don't think I have seen any of those three badges you mention here. I think the rarest badge is the one I want!!!!!!!!!! Note number of exclamation marks  :P I have never seen a St Matthews hospital, Burntwood badge for sale, I have wanted one since 1981 when I qualified and got the blue one up there with a map on(sobs pitifully into handkerchief)

ho caro - well i lived a stones throw from St maggies hospital and went to st margarets primary school.  I did my SRN at Good Hope hospital Sutton Coldfield. I haven't quite got a scots accent and my brummie accent only appears when I've been home! I do own a st matthews burntwood as well as a few stafford badges. Have spent many a happy camping holiday at Cannock at Beaudesert I have the SEN version of the Sr Dora and also a manor hospital.
I have finally achieved a one of my must have's - the Scottish RNMD Did I pay over the odds -probably Was it worth it? oooo yes. So what now?? ahh the Scottish Registered  Male Nurse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Got my eyes on the Bristol eye - forgive my terrible pun I have a small collection of ophthalmic badges and am missing this one
Pete I don't have the badges you are looking for

Well fingers crossed for your Male registered nurse- must be rare. My sister and I used to play by the lake at St Maggies. Do you remember old people saying "he's gone a Barr" for those who had mental health probs? Ddo give my regards to the St Matts badge for me, give it a wee stroke and a pat. I am off to work now - whisper this bit, wearing a lovely St George's hospital Stafford (bought from Pete I think) don't tell the Health and safety police ;D
