I've just searched for the above in the galleries & came up with 24 badges.  23 if the small diamond shaped Cheltenham and General Eye Hospital is a fund raiser and then up to 23,  bearing in mind the previous, if there is both a bronze & silver version of the Morefields Eye Hospital medal badge.  I haven't included the Opthalmic course badges, or any of the amalgamated hospital badges where it includes an eye hospital such as the United Liverpool Hospitals.   Does anyone know of any more?

Off the top of my head there may be one or two missing.I know I did have a Sunderland Eye Infirmary once.I believe there were also more in the south West?

The National Archives list  gives several other hospitals but of course that doesn't mean they had training schools or issued badges;http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/hospitalrecords/searchresults.asp

I realise that its not a badge but Moorfield's Eye Hospital has a belt buckle.

Also there was, Kent County Opthalmic & Aural Hospital and Eyri Hospital, Caernavon, I don't know if they had badges but there were both Eye/Opthalmic hospitals.

Do you have a picture of the Sunderland Eye Hospital badge?

Just checked and there is one in Meglaughlin.

think also
Royal Westminster Ophthalmic hospital
I also believe that the North Riding Infirmary also issued one and there's also the ophthalmic board state ones

Hi Sue, do you have the badges or pictures of them at all?

nursesue

alas no I don't have either the badge or a photo. Its just that I researched the same thing a few years ago with the aim of specialising in collecting ophtahlmic badges but  I didn't get very far. I have a few in my collection but I think they're the ones you've mentioned in your original article. Out of curiosity has anyone got a complete collection of Orthopaedic badges?

myk1066

Thanks Sue.  Re Orthopaedic badges, do you know how many?

poor picture ,I'm afraid, taken from slides from the Cantrell collection. He was an Ophthalmic Surgeon down in the South West who was researching and collecting Nursing badges at the time of Jennifer Meglaughlin. The collection was dispersed and sold off after his death.
