I was looking at the obverse of one of the above medals, inscribed with a number preceded by the letter F.  Does anyone know what is the significance of that letter?

Not sureMike ,do you you mean the Royal British Nurses Association? If so the F there is for Fellow, which is the most likely answer?

Hi
No, The British College of Nurses medal, Peter has one in his shop & there are pictures in the gallery.  The F as you say may relate to Fellow.

Sorry got a bit confused there(not unusual)! Yes,I have a copy of the page from the British Journal of Nursing July 1928 page 166,which describes the badge design and it's meaning, and this talks of the badge being open to Fellows and members.what I don't know is how these were differentiated?

Any chance you could put a link or copy of the description?
Cheers
