For my Nurses Day display I took along a number of caps,Veils and outdoor hats for people to try on and comment upon. Some of the nurses were able to recall wearing some of them ,including the outdoor cap of the Royal Free but it was obvious that the hat was an important item of Nursing ritual in times past.Since then I was contacted by a lady looking to find a cap from the Middlesex Hospital for her elderly mother in law.Whilst original caps are scarce I did find a great pattern for one and its ornate manner of finding on the Middlesex Hospital Facebook page

I wonder if any members can recall the specific cap designs for their hospitals and give similar details?

I was in the paper cap era, straightforward fold over and stud to hold, although I have an old cap given to me as part ofa uniform which I do not know how to fold from the fifties. it is just square cotton .

Hi.

My wife still has her GOSH linen cap from the fifties - it looks (to me) nothing like a cap!  I don't dare ask her to try it on!!

Will.
