As is has gone quite on here for a while I thought I had better try and stimulate some conversation! One of my Christmas/birthday presents last year was a subscription to the Ancestry.com website. Since they added the Details of many of the different Nursing Registers and Records on line I have been able to track down some of the details of the recipients of many of the badges in my collection.It can be of great help in matching the pairs in GNC and Hospital badges and so far has helped me to confirm one of my "is it Nursing or is it not? " badges(It is). If you have a bit of spare money and lots of spare time I would heartedly recommend yet another way of pursuing the finding history of those nurses who preceded us.

I'd thought about registering for an account & I know my sister would be interested in researching our family.  Re the nursing registers, do they start right at the very beginning, I have a GNC badge dated 1921.

Yes pretty inclusive of all the Nursing & Midwifery Registers including some from Burdetts and RBNA. The family History is good unless all your ancestors are from Poland and Russia.Do want to give me the name from your 1921 badge and I can let you know what is listed?

The badge is in the gallery but it's a bit fuzzy.  From what I can make out it looks like E ?H?N?M Falkingham, I can make out RFN ?12  & think it has SRN ?100 on the reverse too.  Hope this helps.

We have an Elsie Melita Falkingham(nee Brown) SRN 566 ,Registered October 28 1921,address Hollow Meadows Institution,Malin Bridge Sheffield.Cert 1913-1916 Parish of Portsmouth Parish Infirmary.
Also RFN 18,October 28 1921,Cert 1911-1913,Borough of Portsmouth,Milton Hospital

Interestingly it also lists a Walter Falkingham who was RMN 10,Registered Feb 3 1922,Head Male Nurse Milton Infirmary Portsmouth,Cert MPA Winwick Asylum Warrington

So you can see that this is exactly the sort of Journey these records can take you on.It seems that the case for male and female nurses to meet and  marry was just as likely then as now ( I met both my wives at work!!!) Now wouldn't these be an interesting set of badges to research!

Ancestry usually does  a free fortnights taster session, so plenty of time to search all those badges.. Local libraries often have a cut down deal.
