The forum and gallery have both been updated to their latest versions, so some things may look different or act slightly differently -- hopefully nothing important!

wonderful as always and yes we all have those must haves - at least your article shed light light on the Fife badge ( that I had a bid on) that was deleted from ebay without explanation I am glad it went to a fellow collector and now begins my hunt to find another one So many wanted badges and so little pennies.....

caro7b

And I wanted the B/ham and Midland eye infirmary. Hee hee. I thought the article was marvellous, really interesting. Should I post my badges even tho everyone else seems to have posted them already? Is it useful to have duplicates? ???

wilfb

Hi.

Yes please - post your badges. All are appreciated and only exact duplicates are not needed. Will.

http://www.schoolsofnursing.co.uk/Collections1/Collections52.htm

News of progress (a lot) re:our badge catalogue. This latter is the precursor to our open-access galleries and our finding book... More photographs from the past; and a bumper 'collectors corner' on new acquisitions - each, hopefully a little more collected nursing history. Plus serious thanks to everyone who has contributed in any way to the page - especially for the moral support which is so important. Many thanks.

It's all in there (plus more!) and I hope that it will all meet with your approval and glowing accolades!!

Will.

HI Will, as ever well done, thanks for all the hard work, much appreciated. Sarah

The Tredegar House photo is  I think the London Hospital nurse training school PTS in the Bow Rd; the uniform was changed in the 1950's after Norman Hartnell redesigned it. It is hard to tell how long their skirts are, I have seen photos of nurses in it from the 1930;s to 1940's. I doubt this one was in the war years as the LH PTS was sent out to ? Trueloves in Essex for the duration of the war. The size of the puffs give the LH dress away; post about 1954 they were made smaller, and wore brown shoes and creamish tights... not black. I do not know when students stopped wearing white sleeves on their fore arms.... Sisters still wore them in my day! (1980's) So to answer the question that badge I do not think is related to those nurses if they are LH nurses....is a Welsh badge? Sarah

Ooops!

Have I laid a booby? (I did wonder) - perhaps Peter can assist before my world goes dark.......

Apologies.

News of progress (a lot) re:our badge catalogue. This latter is the precursor to our open-access galleries and our finding book... More photographs from the past; and a bumper 'collectors corner' on new acquisitions - the latest, Sister (later Matron) Sarah Alice Claridge (Boer War and WWI) plus some finding Ephemera and an article to follow is a little magic!; Another Nottingham Badge and, not least, the badge of the Retreat at York. Building our published history of the nursing profession.

Plus serious thanks to everyone who has contributed in any way to the page - especially for the moral support which is so important. Many thanks.

It's all in there (plus more!) and I hope that it will all meet with your approval and glowing accolades!!

News of progress (a lot) re: Our badge catalogue. This latter is the precursor to our open-access galleries and book start... There has been much progress - there are now 50 pages of 24 badges on-line - 2400 badge photographs right now. And a lot more to come. More photographs from the past - and an admission of guilt - I lost the contributors details and despite much searching I have not found her.; and a bumper 'collectors corner' on new acquisitions - Nottingham and Manchester Royal.  The badge of Sister (later Matron) Sarah Alice Claridge (Boer War and WWI) plus some superb ephemera featured in the last News (OCT 15) resulted in the location of a great niece.  I am returning all to her custody. A splendid opportunity!  Building our published history of the nursing profession.

Plus serious thanks to everyone who has contributed in any way to the page - especially for the moral support which is so very important. Serious thanks.

It's all in there (plus more!) and I hope that it will all meet with your approval and glowing accolades!!

Will.
Ps. The page delay - 24 hours was unavoidable and was due to replacement internet line work by our ISP. Sorry.  And my influenza!

Some interesting reading ,as usual, well done everyone.

As a postscript I have had a distant thought in relation to the matchstick & thread mentioned.Anyone of a sensitive nature should step away now but it is a common form of treatment for dealing with Guinea Worm;https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dracunculiasis
