Hi, the printed nursing registers are now online at Ancestry after a collaboration with the RCN.  It is not the original indexes which are at Kew, and which sometimes get updated with informatio such as date of death, came off the register or marriage.

Is it free to look at, do you have to register with them at all?

Sarah Rogers

You can get a trial, which is free for  two weeks.

Having tremendous fun with these! I can also add to our GNC badge knowledge in that Number 1 on the supplementary part of the register for Male Nurses is George Dunn, see ;https://www.flickr.com/photos/backmanmal/28407046854/

Just to say that Ancestry.co.uk have recently also added Medical Directories 1845-1942  and Midwifery Rolls 1905-1959 as well as Physiotherapy and Masseurs 1895-1980

I have to say it has been well worth my subscription as I have been able to identify the training hospitals for most of my GNC badges,I could spend hours looking through these if Life didn't intervene!

While you can register and pay fee to ancestry for access to records, the RCN library has an agreement that if you log on in the RCN library then access is free. You must log on at RCN library itself. Go to your local RCN library and use their system at no cost or charge.
