The forum and gallery have both been updated to their latest versions, so some things may look different or act slightly differently -- hopefully nothing important!

I agree. The Leith badge is a very lovely one. Suspect not that many of them around, as it was never a big hospital - from what I remember anyway!

Here ( hopefully!) is the address for the SEN RIE badge, as well as other old Edinburgh badges. Enjoy!

No problem Sue. Glad that you enjoyed them, - and indeed the web address worked!.

Had you ever seen the RIE / SEN before?

nursesue

hi have to confess I hadn't seen the SEN version before - i do remember the nurse league one but haven't seen a pic in a long while so it was nice to see again. Barry has an extensive collection and am wondering if he has a Carstairs So thats another edinburgh badge on my hit list but i guess if the ERI SEN did come up for sale it would be beyond my budget  Now if i could only get 6 numbers on the euro lottery!!!!

I might be suffering from a bit of stupidity but I don't know what the 'Carstairs' badge looks like?
Also with regards an S.E.N. (M) Netley badge, I hope that you've not confused this with the SEN (M) Army School of Phyciatric Nursing badge (green rim - with the chapel of Netley in the centre - in chrome/enamel), if its a Netley version it should be H.M. (I don't have one).
All the best,
Barry

Hi Barry.

I sincerely doubt any stupidity on your part!  'Carstairs' more often than not refers to the special hospital at that location. A misnomer perhaps, but to those 'in the know' there was only one 'Carstairs'. Along with Broadmoor; Moss Side; Park Lane; and Rampton....

Best.

I see that there are 4 or 5 nursing badges on the 'badgecollector' website today.

Sarah Rogers

Hi, please can you give me the web address for the badgecollector website? thanks Lizzie

I also have several unidentified badges on there which I am trying to confirm locations of if anyone can help. The badge Collectors group have been around for years and in the past have produced some excellent articles on dating badges from their makers marks.

The 'Publication' of the pictures of the London SEN Badge was very welcome, [Thanks Wilf, I had NEVER seen an SEN Badge from the London.] Apart from it's association with Sir Frederic Treves and John Merrick - The 'Elephant Man' the London appears in the Start-up credits of the early 'Heartbeat' T.V. series and in the John Thaw Film 'Goodnight Mister Tom'.

The United Manchester Hospitals Large Copper[Bronze?] Badge Illustrated above has a 'Vesica Pecis' [Zulu Shield] Shaped 'Variant' Badge issued to 'Physiotherapists' trained there, This Also shows the 'Good Samaritan' on the badge.

I trawled through the gallery of English nursing badges - the whole 136 pages of it and still could not find one of my nursing badges I received from Prestwich School of Nursing, part of Salford RMN 1982.

There are a few badges from Salford listed but not mine..?

Hi Jan.

No, we don't seem to have that one! Now that is dissapointing.... Are you able to send (email or upload) a photograph?

We have over 2,600 nursing badges - but please remember that they are all donated by members - we obviously don't have them all, but we are working on it....

This is the link for our search facility in the galleries. Save yourself a lot of hassle - just enter the name you want, eg 'Prestwich' and if the badge is there it will appear :-

http://www.schoolsofnursing.co.uk/gallery/search.php

There is also a differnt search facility in the forum (for a different purpose) - but whatever that throws up it will probably be text, although you never know... There are a couple of things that you can do:-

1. Send us a photograph of the badge.
2. Hope that one of our members will have one and upload it.
2. Go to nursingbadges at 'Multiply' http://nursingbadges.multiply.com/
3. Try 'flicker' photographs - eg: http://www.flickr.com/photos/backmanmal/3387604281/in/set-72157615858909155/
4. Check our site here:- http://www.schoolsofnursing.co.uk/

Fill in the search boxes wherever you go - it is much faster jan.

Hopefully someone will come up with the badge before you need to do all that...

Best Regards.
Will.

Hi, did any one see the price of the lovely north edinburgh before it got bought off sallys site this mornng? .thanks Lizzie

rogartdog

Hello Lizzie,

I didn't see the price; however I note that it is still on Sally's site ( 7pm Saturday)   Is it the one that was on ebay?
I agree with you, it is a beauty. I remember the nurses wearing them - it was my training hospital; though by the time I trained ( early 80's) we received the 'Lothian College' badge
