Title: Registered Male Nurse Scotland badge.
Post by: backman on May 29, 2021, 04:46:37 PM
This mythical creature has been more elusive than Nessie with only one blurry photo from a long missed eBay sale being circulated. The legend is that it still resides in the Netherlands with Ralph? Anyway the recent sale of the Jo Dunstone collection flushed out one other and thanks to their photograph I was finally able to do a bit more digging.I had though that the separate B category for Male nurses had ended sometime in the 1930s but I tracked it down to ending in 1950.This means that very low numbers prior to the war were greatly increased by the influx of men into general nursing, often coming from the services post war. The highest number being registered (bearing in mind it started at 7001)was 7113 so a grand total of 113 may exist if they all bothered to buy one( I suspect lots didn't). It means that perhaps, at last we can get a good image for our albums before it finds its more permanent home.

And I am very happy it has. Perhaps we could have a photo of the full range of Scottish Registration variants sometime?
